Josh Wong: ‘I expected to pay the price’ – BBC News
Joshua Wong, a teenager who became the public face of the Hong Kong protest movement, has criticized Britain’s prime minister for failing to challenge the Chinese president’s human rights abuses in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland. Last year, Joshua Wong mobilized thousands of protesters during demonstrations by the Chinese government against its intentions for political reform. The protests failed to convince China to give a completely democratic vote to the city’s next vote in 2017. And voters will choose from a list of candidates accepted by Beijing. Meanwhile, 19-year-old Joshua will return to Hong Kong next week to face an illegal meeting – after 5 years in prison for his role in leading a movement called Umbrella. Subscribe to BBC News HERE
