A 6.0-magnitude earthquake strikes parts of the country – Pakistan

An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale – with its epicenter in the border region between Afghanistan and Tajikistan – struck parts of the country on Sunday morning, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

The administration said in a statement that the quake occurred at 10:50 am and struck at a depth of 223 km.

Tremors were felt in several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. DawnNewsTV reported that earthquakes were felt in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

The KB Provincial Disaster Management Authority said tremors were being felt in various parts of the province, but its control room has yet to receive reports of any damage.

Meanwhile, the US Geological Survey, a US government agency that tracks seismic activity around the world, said a 5.2-magnitude quake struck 35 kilometers southeast of Gorm, Afghanistan.

The Hindustan Times reported that “light earthquakes” were felt in New Delhi and its vicinity. The publication stated that tremors were felt in Punjab and Haryana as well as in Srinagar and Poonch in occupied Kashmir.

In March, two people died and six were injured when a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck parts of the country.

The US Geological Survey said that the earthquake struck Afghanistan and parts of India as well, including the capital, New Delhi, adding that the epicenter was located 40 km southeast of the Afghan town of Gorm.
