The loud booming noise heard in the metropolitan area came from an F-16 scrambling to investigate stray planes
Boom via the DMV as a result of an F-16 flying in to investigate
A loud sonic boom was reported around 3 p.m. across DC, Maryland and Virginia – which was later found to be from a sonic boom sent from NORAD due to a stray aircraft entering DC airspace. The F-16 hit the plane, seeing the pilot unconscious, and the plane crashed in southwest Virginia soon after. David Kaplan is on site from Joint Base Andrews.
A fighter jet that was attempting to intercept a small, unresponsive aircraft that flew over the capital on Sunday issued a report of a loud boom heard throughout the area.
Reports began arriving in the FOX 5 DC newsroom as well as on Twitter around 3 p.m. of what sounded like an explosion as far away as Annapolis, including DC and Northern Virginia.
According to FOX News, an F-16 supersonic fighter jet was “cleared to respond” to an unidentified Cessna jet ignoring radio queries flying on an “exotic flight path” outside the nation’s capital, officials say. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, a Cessna reportedly crashed near Staunton, Virginia which was previously reported to FOX 5 DC.
FOX News’ Lucas Tomlinson has obtained a statement from NORAD confirming that they have been dispatched to investigate an “unresponsive Cessna 560 Citation V over Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia on June 4, 2023.” “The NORAD was allowed to travel at supersonic speeds and the people of the area may have heard a sonic boom. During this event, the NORADs also used flares – possibly visible to the public – in an attempt to draw attention from the pilot,” she said. NORAD concluded, “The civilian aircraft was intercepted at approximately 3:20 p.m. ET. The pilot did not respond and the Cessna subsequently crashed near George Washington National Forest, Virginia. NORAD attempted to contact the pilot until the aircraft crashed.”
Multiple tweets earlier in the afternoon reported that the noise may have been the result of an aircraft sonic boom during a military exercise including one from the Office of Emergency Management in Annapolis. Bowie also tweeted that it was from a plane outside Joint Base Andrews.

Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price.
