A 2.1-magnitude earthquake was detected in the Al-Fay area of ​​the UAE late Wednesday night, according to a consultant issued by the National Center of Meteorology (NCM).

The authority added that the slight earthquake was recorded at 11.29 pm on the UAE-Omani border.

Experts said earlier that UAE residents have no reason to worry about earthquakes.

“The UAE has low to moderate earthquakes, and therefore we are safe. We are not on the active seismic belt,” Khalifa Al-Abri, director of earthquake management at NCM, said in a previous report to Khaleej Times.

He added, “We have frequent tremors two to three times a year. Most of these tremors are not felt by people, they are only detected by sensors. All of these tremors do not affect buildings or infrastructure (in the country).”
