1 volcanic earthquake, 177 volcanic rock event recorded at Mayon-Vivolex volcano

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said Sunday that it has recorded one volcanic earthquake and 177 rock events at Mayon Volcano, which remains under Alert Level 3.

Based on the 8 a.m. bulletin, Vivolex said volcanic earthquake and rockfall events have been recorded over the past 24 hours, as Mayon Volcano continues to “increase turbulence or rock disturbances.”

Mayon released 1,205 tons of sulfur dioxide on June 10. A moderate glow of the crater was also noted as its shafts were seen to drift generally to the east while its edifice was inflated.

Phivolcs warned the locals about rockslides, landslides or avalanches. lava flows and lava fountains; lava density streams; Medium-sized eruptions and lahars during heavy and prolonged rainfall may occur within the region.

The Ministry of Social Welfare and Development earlier revealed that more than 7,000 people and 2,169 families had been evacuated to public school buildings and designated evacuation centers in Albay from June 10.

A total of 102,000 family food packages have also been distributed to the county.
