An earthquake “large enough to feel” was recorded in Nuneaton.

The small tremor was one of a few hundred occurring each year, with only a few being noted by the public.

The earthquake struck at 5.22 pm on Friday (July 10) with a strength of 2.0.

Anything less than 2.5 is considered slight but can be recorded by the seismograph, while anything higher than 7.0 is classified as “main” and can cause significant harm.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 9 km, according to the British Geological Survey (BGS), which recorded the event.

“This is a typical small earthquake in the UK,” said BGS seismologist Glenn Ford.

“We get nearly a few hundred per year and only about ten percent of those are seen by the audience. This was definitely big enough for the audience to feel but we haven’t received any reports. There are a number of factors why this might be the case.”
