WHO is launching a mobile app for easier diagnosis
As part of its mission to promote health, preserve the world and protect the vulnerable, the World Health Organization (WHO) is exploring the potential of mobile phone technology to expand its scope in addressing a range of global public health issues.
In response, the Department for the Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases recently converted an image guide for 2018 on neglected tropical skin diseases (so-called Skin NTDs) into a new interactive mobile app.
“This software program will quickly enable healthcare professionals and the public to obtain information about a particular disease – such as its clinical features, management and geographical distribution – and will also provide a list of possible diagnoses.” said Dr. Jose Postigo, physician, NTD Skin Team, WHO’s Department of Neglected Tropical Diseases Control. “All it takes is to access the interactive menu and a few clicks to recognize the skin condition. “
The app also allows for a quick exchange of information via a chat framework through which general questions can be answered immediately.
In 2018, it is published by the WHO Recognizing neglected tropical diseases through skin changes: a guide to training healthcare professionals in the first place, a comprehensive guide to recognizing cutaneous NTDs through signs and symptoms that provides information on how to diagnose and manage common skin problems that non-specialist healthcare professionals may encounter.
