New details are emerging about the cost and impact of the French earthquake

New figures show that the cost of the earthquake that struck France last month could reach 350 million euros.

The estimate and damage report came from La Caisse centrale de réassurance (CCR), the general insurance company.

He also said he would take care of at least “half” the cost.

The earthquake hit western France on June 16 at 18:38. The epicenter was in the commune of Cram-Chabanne, between La Rochelle and Niort.

It is estimated that more than 5,000 buildings were damaged, of which several hundred were severely damaged.

“In the affected communes, many buildings were damaged from a structural point of view, with chimneys and even some walls collapsing,” the commission said in a statement.

Affected communes include four in Charente-Maritime (La Ligny, Cram-Chabran, Corson d’Aones, and Penon), and three in Deux-Sevres (Mauzy-sur-le-Mignon, Saint-Hilaire-la-Palude, and Niort).

The center said the cost of the damage “will be gradually reassessed according to the post-earthquake work currently under way.”

The new estimate comes after insurance treasury Saretec initially estimated the cost at between €150m and €200m.
