The UK was shaken by a “very big shake” with homes trembling
Staffordshire was hit by an earthquake on Wednesday evening with residents reporting “clattering” of windows and doors.
The British Geological Survey confirmed that a 3.3-magnitude earthquake hit the area.
The earthquake, which had its epicenter 4.5 miles (7.3 km) below the village of Tian, was felt in Stoke-on-Trent and surrounding areas at about 8.20pm.
It is one of the 21 largest earthquakes to hit the UK over a two-month period.

BGS said people reported an “initial gurgle, then an explosion” with what “felt like a shunt, like something had hit something.”
Mark Page said he was at home in Uttoxter when he felt a “very big shake”.
Other members of the public posted on social media that they felt a “short, sharp” tremor on Wednesday evening.
On Twitter, Leilani Dowding said: “Wow. Just felt a little earthquake. No, that’s not an euphemism!! Uttoxeter area.. thought I was going crazy imagining it. But this is all out on local social media”
Another person said: “I’m sure I just felt an earthquake in Staffordshire”.
While another added: “Severe short earthquake in North Staffordshire now.”
Earthquakes are caused by movements in the Earth’s faults, which mark the boundary between tectonic plates.
Dr. Ian Stimpson, senior lecturer in geophysics at Keele University, said the area has not historically experienced earthquakes.

He told the BBC: “With this location and depth, it is likely that it was a natural earthquake and not anything to do with previous mines.”
Earlier this year, Welsh people were hit by Britain’s biggest earthquake this year – a 3.8-magnitude jolt on February 24 – when locals reported that their beds started moving and walls shook.
A resident of the small Welsh town of Abertillery, not far from the epicenter, said the quake was so noticeable “that the roof was falling off”.
