Caap: No damage in Cotabato by Santos General Airports after the 5.3 Sarangani earthquake

CAAP did not report any damage to Cotabato Airport and General Santos Airport. (inquiry files)

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Civil Aviation Authority (Caap) said Tuesday that Cotabato Airport and General Santos Airport sustained no damage following the 5.3-magnitude earthquake in Sarangani the night before.

“Caap did not report damage to airport facilities at Cotabato Airport and General Santos Airport,” the agency said in a statement.

She added, “Managers of both airports immediately assessed and inspected the structures, and confirmed that there were no significant damages to the terminal buildings and other airport facilities.”

According to Kapp, General Santos Airport has resumed normal flight operations, with the terminal and runway fully operational.

On the other hand, Cotabato Airport remains closed due to continued asphalt overlay and runway marking repaint from July 6 through August 18, 2023.

Caap then assured the public that he had already coordinated with local authorities and agencies to prepare for the aftershocks, and to continue monitoring the situation to provide the necessary updates and ensure the safe operation of flights in the affected areas.
