A heat wave that has caused extreme weather in southern Europe is expected to reach its peak today (Tuesday 18 July), although the extreme conditions could last for another 10 days. The Italian island of Sardinia is expected to reach 46C (114.8F), while the Spanish island of La Palma and mainland Greece have been hit by fires. Globally, extreme weather has caused rising temperatures in the US and China, and heavy rainfall and flooding in South Korea.
