Assistance is still available for property damage caused by the Magna earthquake

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Gary Governor Herbert Utah residents said there is still federal money available for those who suffered property damage during a 5.7-magnitude earthquake in March near Magna.

There are several ways that residents can contact the Federal Emergency Management Agency to find out if they qualify for federal funds.

More than 2,000 aftershocks have been reported since the March 18 earthquake.

Residents reported more than 70 cases in the days immediately after the earthquake. Most of it was damaged by chimney.

According to FEMA, 24 requests for assistance with a total of $ 93,951.37 have already been approved.

On Wednesday, the Federal Emergency Management Agency said that due to the COVID-19 emergency across the country, customers will check the damage remotely.

FEMA inspectors will contact the applicants over the phone to inquire about the type and extent of the damage. The officials said that the assistance will be based on the applicant’s responses during remote inspection.

Utah residents affected by the March 18 earthquake or its aftermath may apply for assistance or obtain information about the status of their FEMA requests at www.disasterassistance.gov. You can also call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362 (FEMA) or (TTY) 800-462-7585.
