A 1982 book The Effect of Jupiter suggested that the alignment of planets could lead to terrible catastrophes worldwide – from the Big One earthquake in California to San Andreas to successive volcanic eruptions. The text, written by John Gribbin and Stephen Blagman, has argued that every 179 years, rough alignment of planets occurs – and therefore, major changes occur on Earth.

So some planets nowadays “happen to be outside of the sun.”

He explained: “The tidal force of A on body B is the difference between the gravitational pull on the B side near it and on the far side.

For this reason, there is a high tide on the side of the Earth closest to the Moon and also on the opposite side.

The average distance between the Moon and Earth centers is 238,606 miles (384,000 km), while the Earth’s radius is 4,000 miles (6,378 km).

This means that the average distances of the moon to the near and far ends are 2,500 miles (390,378 km).

In other words, the difference between these is about three percent.

Jupiter’s gas distance from Earth is about 621 million miles.

So the distances from Jupiter to the near and far sides of the Earth are 780,000,000,000 miles, plus and minus 6378 miles. This is a difference of about 0.0016 percent.

This means that there is a very small impact, and Mr Ottewell says this is not enough to spike massive earthquakes and devastating volcanic eruptions.

Speaking of a 1974 book, he added: “There was some evidence that the global tides may be 40 micrometers higher (40 thousand parts per millimeter).

“The only other part of the prediction that was achieved was that it was the best-selling book.”
