Local officials in Sarpul Zahb, Kermanshah, ordered the November 2017 earthquake survivors to leave their makeshift homes by Friday, July 24, as the mayor told them they were breaking the law by offering these makeshift homes.

“Installing trailers and setting up tents in the city’s areas is against the law. This will also disrupt the peace and tranquility of others who live in these specific areas who have protested in this regard. As a result, from this warning, it is necessary that these Residents move and move trailers and tents outside the city limits within the next 48 hours. Otherwise, we will take the necessary measures in accordance with the law. “

Residents have lived in harsh conditions for nearly three years, since the earthquake devastated the city and their lives, leaving them a place to live because the government did not provide them with housing, despite their promise to help at that time. Poverty means that these people cannot afford mortgages or new real estate rents. If they can, why do they stay in unsafe conditions?

A video clip even showed people living in Ahmed Ibn Ishaq’s cemetery because they could not live elsewhere. They also offered partially built homes, which the government abandoned because of “a lack of funding” and people could not afford to finish the government project.
