A moderate earthquake from last week’s magnitude 7.8 earthquake off the Alaska Peninsula

The Alaskan Seismological Center reported that a moderate earthquake of last week’s 7.8 magnitude earthquake off the Alaska Peninsula occurred in the same region on Monday.

The center said that Monday’s 11:34 am earthquake had an initial magnitude of 5.5 and was located at a depth of about 18 miles. The center said it was positioned approximately 80 miles from King Cove, where it felt light. The King Cove Public Safety Department has sent a notice to residents saying that aftershocks are expected to continue.

Last Tuesday, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake centered in the water 65 miles southeast of the Little Perryville community, at a depth of 17 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Canceled tsunami warnings were generated after the earthquake caused a wave less than a foot.
