The city of Mfskok was rocked by a 5.1 magnitude earthquake

Reserve MVSKOKE, Oklv. – On Friday, February 2 at 11:28 PM (CT), many residents throughout Oklahoma, the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and surrounding states felt the effects of a 5.1 magnitude earthquake near the city of Bragg in Lincoln County. Although the city is not within the jurisdictional boundaries of the state, it is located a few miles outside the western border. The depth of the quake was determined to be about two miles by the Oklahoma Geological Survey.

Friday night's earthquake occurred along the Arbuckle Formation, the same quake that experienced a similar 5.0 magnitude quake in 2011. The Arbuckle Formation is the deepest formation in the state.

According to MCN Emergency Management Director Bobby Howard, there was no significant damage to the main tribal complex. Howard's team did not respond to any areas within the reserve for relief efforts.

On Saturday, February 3, the Oklahoma Corporation Commission's Division of Oil and Natural Gas Conservation issued a directive to change operations at some oil and gas wastewater disposal wells near Prague in response to seismic activity. All wells in the Arbuckle Formation within a 10-mile radius have been ordered to complete shut-ins by February 17.
