The UK foreign secretary has called on Israel to “stop and think seriously” about any ground attack in Rafah and the impact on the 1.5 million people sheltering in the southern city. Lord David Cameron has reiterated his call for a pause in the fighting, with the aim of achieving a long-term “sustainable ceasefire”. The Health Ministry in Hamas-run Gaza says the Israeli strike overnight killed at least 67 people in the overcrowded city. Israel says it carried out a “wave of strikes” while rescuing the two hostages, who are now in “good medical condition”. Israel launched its operations in Gaza after Hamas killed more than 1,200 people and kidnapped 253 people on October 7.
