A 3.8 magnitude earthquake hits San Bernardino County

A 3.8 magnitude earthquake struck the San Bernardino County area Thursday evening.

The earthquake was reported at approximately 11:38 p.m. according to the USGS.

The epicenter of the earthquake was about two miles southeast of Ontario near the Ontario International Airport.

The quake was measured at a depth of about 7.4 miles, according to the USGS.

No injuries or structural damage were immediately reported.

Hundreds of earthquakes are recorded in California every year. Most are very small, but dozens have a magnitude greater than 3.0.

According to the California Department of Environmental Conservation, the strongest earthquake ever recorded in the Golden State measured 7.9 and struck Fort Tejon on January 9, 1857.
