Initially, residents received an alert that a 6.3 magnitude earthquake had occurred near Chula Vista, urging them to take shelter. However, many reported not feeling any seismic activity.

Social media platforms were quickly filled with reactions from confused residents

“I just received a massive earthquake warning in San Diego but I didn't feel anything…? What?!?” one person wrote on X.
