TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency or BMKG reported that a 4.4 magnitude tectonic earthquake shook Aceh Singkil province and the surrounding area on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 03:22 PM WIB (West Indonesia). time).

The epicenter of the quake was located at 2.15 north latitude and 97.85 west longitude, or 21 kilometers southeast of Aceh Singkil and at a depth of 31 kilometers in the ocean.

“Considering the location of the epicenter and the depth of the epicenter, it was a shallow earthquake due to large thrust activity,” BMKG District 1 chief Henderu Nugroho said on Friday.

According to community reports, the earthquake occurred at a III-IV MMI level on the intensity scale in Aceh Singkil district, shattering pottery and moving walls.

Meanwhile, the earthquake was felt on the MMI III intensity scale, similar to passing trucks.

As of 03:38 PM WIB, BMKG monitoring showed no signs of aftershocks.
