Coronavirus | Punjab reports 511 cases, 10 deaths

Punjab registered 511 cases of COVID-19 on Thursday and reported 10 more deaths, taking the death toll to 370, according to an official statement.

The number of positive cases has reached 15,456. The bulk of the new cases, 143 and 73, were reported by Ludhiana and Ferozepur districts respectively. The Department of Health said there were 4,577 active cases and 10,509 had been cured so far.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of Punjab, Amarinder Singh has sought the views of the Deputy Commissioners (DC) for the opening of gyms and training centers. He said he will make a final decision on this and other relaxations in Unlock 3.0 after receiving their inputs.

In a videoconference with VCs and health officials on COVID control agreements, the Prime Minister said that while the Central government had announced certain holidays, including permission to open gyms, according to Unlock 3.0 guidelines, it would decide on the same after assess the ground situation.

He said plasma would be provided at no cost to anyone in need. Captain Singh instructed the Health Department to strictly ensure that patients with COVID were not charged for plasma therapy and that no one was allowed to buy or sell plasma, which in many cases had proven to be a lifesaver.

4 deaths in Haryana

In Haryana, 623 cases were reported, bringing the total to 34,254. The state reported four deaths, taking the total death toll to 417. The bulk of the new cases, 184 and 77, were reported from Faridabad and Gurugram districts respectively. There were 6,497 active cases and 27,340 patients had been discharged so far, a statement said.
