Residents and businesses across Barbados are encouraged to participate in National Earthquake Preparedness Day on Friday, March 8 at 10am.

This is part of activities to celebrate the Smart Coastal Hazards and Seismic Month, which begins on Friday, March 1 and continues until Sunday, March 31, under the slogan “Resilient Beaches, Secure Future.”

It is hosted by the Standing Technical Committee on Coastal Risks, which is co-chaired by the Emergency Management and Coastal Zone Management Unit.

This activity is designed to increase awareness of earthquakes among the Barbados community and to test earthquake procedures.

Schools and organizations are encouraged to use the alert system to begin training at 10 a.m. today.
