Two earthquakes shake Davao Oriental – Phivolcs

MANILA, Philippines – Two earthquakes measuring 5.0 and 5.1 struck the Davao Oriental region early Thursday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Both earthquakes occurred in Banganga, Davao Oriental.

Phivolcs said the epicenter of the quake was located 63 kilometers northeast of Banganga in Davao Oriental. It happened at about 5:39 a.m. and was tectonic in origin.

State seismologists say the quake was recorded in the Intensity I area in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur.

Instrumentation density was also recorded in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro.

On the other hand, the 5.0 magnitude earthquake occurred at around 4:19 a.m. at least 70 kilometers northeast of Baganga in Davao Oriental.

It was initially recorded at a magnitude of 5.3, but Phivolcs later lowered it to 5.0.

Based on the bulletin issued by Phivolcs, this magnitude 5.0 earthquake was felt at Intensity III in Lingig, Surigao del Sur, while it was recorded at Intensity II in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur.

The musical instrument event was also held in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur and Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte.

Phivolcs said no damage was expected from either quake. However, aftershocks may occur.
