A 3.6 magnitude earthquake strikes western Sydney

A 3.6 magnitude earthquake struck western Sydney on Friday evening.

The Australian Geosciences Authority confirmed that the earthquake occurred shortly before nine o'clock in the evening in Penrith, saying that the event occurred at a depth of eight kilometers.

It was also felt in Silverdale, Orchard Hills and the Blue Mountains, where nearly 3,000 people said they felt the tremors and registered “felt reports” with the agency.

There were no reports of any major effects.

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology confirmed on X, the platform officially known as Twitter, that there was no tsunami threat following the quake.

The New South Wales Rural Fire Service confirmed the earthquake on social media.

“Did anyone else feel that way?” New South Wales RFS published.

“A 3.6 magnitude earthquake occurred around the Warragamba area, with tremors felt throughout the Blue Mountains and western Sydney area.”

People claimed to have felt it in parts of the Hills region in Sydney's northwest, while others in Bondi in Sydney's east and some on the Central Coast claimed to have felt the tremor.
