KERSHOW COUNTY, N.C. — About 15 minutes after an earthquake struck the ground beneath several Kershaw County communities, hundreds of people have already reported feeling it.

The rumble occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. The initial estimated magnitude of the quake, 2.5, was upgraded to 2.8 about an hour later. At the time, more than 500 people reported feeling the quake to the USGS. The estimated epicenter changed to about three miles east of Elgin, off Whiting Road at Rio Drive. This is located along I-20, not far from where several earthquakes have struck the area in previous years.
