The US Geological Survey reported that a 4.1 magnitude earthquake occurred 29 kilometers north of Samsun, Turkey. Although the magnitude of the earthquake that occurred on March 11 was initially recorded above 4 degrees, it could be raised or lowered on the Richter scale by the authorities. The exact time the earthquake struck the Turkish province was 3:11 AM (GMT-3).

The epicenter of the earthquake was reported near Samsun, striking at a shallow depth of 15.9 km below the province. Residents of the Turkish city of Samsun felt earthquakes from the earthquake, based on reactions circulated on social media early Monday morning. Meanwhile, the exact depth of the quake was revised to 15.1 kilometers by the USGS minutes after seismologists measured it to be 0.8 kilometers deeper than it actually was.

There were no reports of serious damage or anyone being injured as a result of the earthquake that struck Turkey on Monday. Although there were no major tremors, reports indicate that residents felt mild tremors in the epicenter area.
