An “earthquake-like event” along with a “loud banging or rumbling sound” was reported in parts of Cape Town, South Africa, on Wednesday afternoon. The City of Cape Town's Disaster Risk Management Department is investigating its source; A spokesman for a local news organization said.

“We are investigating ourselves and the fire services,” Charlotte Powell, a spokeswoman for the Department of Disaster Management, told News24.
