Earthquake aftershock hits New Jersey city nearly a week after a 4.8-magnitude quake — just one of 46 aftershocks.

New Jersey has been hit by more than 45 aftershocks following last week's 4.8-magnitude earthquake — including one that rocked the Garden State on Wednesday morning.

The US Geological Survey said the 2.6-magnitude quake — the 46th aftershock — occurred near Gladstone at about 10:22 a.m.

It was felt by just under 80 people, according to the US Geological Survey.

Three more tremors were reported Tuesday, with magnitudes of 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5, NJ Advance Media reported.

Four aftershocks were also reported across Hunterdon County on Monday, including one that came as the sun re-emerged from the moon's shadow, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Dozens more occurred over the weekend.

The strongest aftershock so far came just before 6pm on Friday, measuring 3.8 near Gladstone.

All of the aftershocks were centered near the epicenter of Friday's quake at Whitehouse Station in Hunterdon County, and geologists say more are expected in the coming days.

“We expect aftershocks like this to occur in the days, weeks and months after the main shock, so this is completely within the range of what is expected,” Alex Hatem, a research geologist at the USGS, told The Washington Post.

However, the chance that New York City will feel another shock is low. Hatem said a mild tremor is possible in the coming days, but nothing like the earthquake that shook the Statue of Liberty and City Hall on Friday or the aftershock that shook later that evening.

The US Geological Survey expects there will be smaller aftershocks through Sunday, with one possibly reaching magnitude 3 or higher.

However, it says there is less than a 1% chance that one or more of the aftershocks will reach magnitude 5 or higher.
