Singapore to make travelers wear electronic labels to enforce quarantine
SINGAPORE (Reuters) – Singapore will have some incoming passengers wear electronic monitoring equipment to ensure they comply with coronavirus quarantines as the city-state gradually reopens its borders, authorities said on Monday.

From August 11, the equipment will be given to incoming travelers, including citizens and residents, from a certain set of places that will be allowed to be isolated at home rather than in a state-designated facility.
Similar measures using electronic tapes to track the movements of people during quarantine have been used in Hong Kong and South Korea.
Travelers in Singapore are required to activate the device, which uses GPS and Bluetooth signals, once they arrive at their home and receive notifications about the device they need to receive.

Singapore, which did not provide details on what the device will look like, said in a statement that it will not store any personal data and does not have any voice or video recording function.
Those aged 12 and under will not have to wear the equipment.
The city-state, which is also planning to give all residents a virus-infected dongle, could face harsh penalties for violating its quarantine and socially distancing rules.
Under the Infectious Diseases Act, penalties can be fines of up to S $ 10,000 ($ 7,272) or imprisonment of up to six months, or both. He has also revoked the work shifts of foreigners who ignited the rules.
Singapore has reported 52,825 coronavirus infections, mainly due to the massive outbreak in the dormitories of wild migrant workers, but imported cases have increased in recent days.
