China's economy grew much faster than expected in early 2024 – up 5.3% – due to its focus on green manufacturing. The country has invested in producing high-end products such as electric vehicles, batteries and solar panels that are sold worldwide. But that has caused tensions with the West, which fears other countries are becoming too reliant on high-tech Chinese goods vital to a low-carbon future.
