Raipur: Several areas in Jagdalpur, a tribal district in Chhattisgarh, witnessed two earthquakes just 12 minutes apart late on Wednesday evening. These tremors were felt not only in neighboring towns like Amagoda, Kumharpara and Patraguda but also in rural areas like Adawwal, Samra and Karkapal. According to the National Center for Seismology, a 2.6-magnitude earthquake occurred at a depth of 5 km, 2 km north-east of Jagdalpur, at 7:53 pm and 8.05 pm. Residents who felt the earthquake immediately rushed out of their homes and shops. Earthquakes are caused by the movement of tectonic plates beneath the Earth's surface.
