TEWKSBURY — More than three weeks after the April 5 earthquake struck New Jersey, aftershocks are still shaking the Garden State.

A 2.9 magnitude aftershock was confirmed in Hunterdon County on Saturday morning. The quake was felt around 9:49 a.m. about 4 miles southwest of Gladstone, according to the USGS.

It's the second largest aftershock New Jersey has seen this month. A 3.7 magnitude aftershock was measured just minutes after the 4.8 magnitude earthquake on April 5.

The state Office of Emergency Management said early Saturday afternoon that they had not received any reports of damage from the aftershock.

Saturday morning's relatively large aftershock bucks the trend of most aftershocks since April 5 of being too small to be felt.

Nearly 150 aftershocks had occurred in New Jersey as of Sunday morning, according to the US Geological Survey. Only 15 of them had a power greater than 2.0.

Reports of people in New Jersey feeling the aftershock poured in on social media. Some believe it was another separate earthquake.

“Another earthquake in New Jersey. Definitely not as loud or long as the last one,” one user on X said.

“We're getting hit again! This isn't normal! This is New Jersey! We don't get earthquakes!” Another user said.
