Let's start at the beginning, Friday, April 5, 2024, 10:23 AM EST. Is this bound to be one of those days and times when people ask, “Where were you when the earthquake struck in the Northeast?” A 4.8 magnitude earthquake is not only rare, it is also historic. There had never been an earthquake of this magnitude in such a large area, which shook the ground and shocked the people who experienced it. From the epicenter of the earthquake in Lebanon, New Jersey – a semi-rural area located in the central-western part of the state – to the rest of the United States, the earthquake made a lot of noise, but fortunately, did not cause significant damage.

Where were you at the time of the earthquake? We all have a story. Mine goes as follows. April 5th is my husband's birthday. I woke up long before sunrise that morning to travel to a arbitration assignment in Massachusetts. I kissed him goodbye, wished him a happy birthday, and then headed to the airport. When I landed just before 10am, I asked the driver if she would stop at the market where I could get some food to take with me to the hotel. It took a little longer than I expected. Our landlord, who owns the house we're renting on his horse farm, can barely speak. “I think we just had an earthquake. Did you hear it and feel it?” “No! Are you sure?” I asked with fear. Then I realized she didn't know I wasn't home and had no idea what was going on.

She was definitely upset. “I heard a bowling ball hit the alley and then the whole house shook. It was so loud the art on the walls started moving side to side. I listened in disbelief. An earthquake in the wilds of western New Jersey had my head spinning. I let the texts pile up as I searched through Google for more information. When I saw the results, my heart literally started pounding Lebanon, NJ is adjacent to the site where we are building our nearly finished home. Are people getting hurt?” I admitted to myself that I was worried.
