Overnight retrofit work to close EB Bay Bridge stairs on Treasure Island this weekend – CBS San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – Traffic in the East Bay Bridge will be disrupted from 11 pm to 5 am for three nights from Thursday to provide space for crew members working to make the bridge more resilient in the event of an earthquake.

Caltrans said the Caltrans crews will block the ramps heading east to and from Treasure Island and two lanes heading east of Interstate 80 from First Street in San Francisco west of the bridge until the end of the Yerba Buena tunnel.

The work is part of an ongoing effort to upgrade 96 seismic dampers along the western span of the bridge, allowing it to move during the earthquake.

East heading drivers from San Francisco to Treasure Islands and Yerba Buena Island can take Interstate 80 and the bridge east to Auckland and follow turn signals to make the left take the service path of Traffic Yard and U direction and back to the Highway heading west then take the Yerba Buena slope.
