San Jose Earthquakes draw with Austin 1-1 in MLS

Jeremy Ebobisse moved into a tie for third with Landon Donovan on the Quakes' all-time scoring list with a goal in the 18th minute, but Austin tied the game just before intermission and the teams played to a 1-1 tie Saturday night at PayPal Park.

This was the sixth time in nine all-time meetings that the MLS teams were tied. San Jose won two of the other three meetings.

The Quakes (3-10-2) ended a two-game MLS losing streak and were coming off a US Open Cup loss to Sacramento Republic FC.

Before a crowd of 13,744, the Quakes found the back of the net early when Ebobisse finished off a Christian Espinosa cross in the 10th minute. This was Ebubesi's 32nd goal with the Earthquakes. Chris Wondolowski has scored 167 of 171 MLS goals for the Quakes.

Espinoza had his ninth assist of the season, fourth in MLS. His 65 assists stand as a standing club record.

It was the ninth time in 15 MLS games this season that San Jose led at some point during a game.

Austin tied the score on a Brendan Haynes Ike header in the 45th minute. Austin (6-4-5), which opened the season with a five-game winless streak, is undefeated with two victories in its last three games.

The Earthquakes made Austin work for a win on the road. Goalie Brad Stover made six saves and Hernan Lopez hit the crossbar late in the second half.

St. Joe's returns to action Friday at Yankee Stadium against New York City FC. The match kicks off at 4:30pm (PT) and is broadcast on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
