A minor earthquake hits Koh Samui amid severe weather warnings

A 2.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Koh Samui in Surat Thani, at a depth of 4 kilometers, according to the Earthquake Monitoring Division of the Thailand Meteorological Department. The event occurred at 8.24 a.m., today, May 30, causing noticeable tremors in the area.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Ang Thong sub-district of Koh Samui. Although the earthquake was relatively minor, residents reported that they felt the ground tremor. The Thailand Meteorological Department (TMD) assured the public that it would provide updates on any further developments.

The cause of this earthquake was determined to be caused by the release of thermal energy under the Earth's crust, affecting residents of the surrounding areas of Surat Thani Province.

The earthquake was felt by residents of the area, but there have been no reports of damage so far.
