Today's Earthquake: A 3.5 magnitude earthquake hits Chandel in Manipur
Today's Earthquake: An earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale struck Chandel district of Manipur in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Seismic activity was reported around 2:38 a.m. on June 2. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the epicenter was located at latitude 23.9 north and longitude 94.10 east and at a depth of 77 kilometers.
The Department of Seismology took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to inform the public about this seismic activity. The post read: “EQ of M: 3.5, Dated: 02/06/2024 02:38:50 EDT, Latitude: 23.91N, Longitude: 94.10E, Depth: 77 km, Location: Chandel, Manipur. “

Ani News Agency reported that no injuries have been reported so far, and no damage has been observed.
The earthquake struck the state at a time when rivers were flowing above the danger level in the state, according to data from the Central Water Commission.

The situation remains critical in multiple districts of Manipur. The Barak river at Chutabkra in Imphal East district is flowing 2.07 meters above the danger level of 26.2 metres. Although the water level shows a downward trend, it is flowing at a rate of 28.27 metres.
“The flood situation remains bleak in many places in the northeast, with a small number of people affected after incessant rains following Cyclone Sands,” the agency quoted officials as saying.

On May 28, an earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale struck Pithoragarh district in Uttarakhand. NCS said in a social media post on Location: Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. The tremors were felt in Pithoragarh at 6:43 am.
In Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh district, tremors were felt at 6:43 am. According to the National Center for Statistics, the epicenter of the earthquake was at latitude 30.15 north and longitude 80.28 east, at a depth of 5 kilometers.
