A 3.0 magnitude earthquake was felt in parts of Thrissur and Palakkad; The Geology Department is preparing for the study

Thrissur: A mild earthquake measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale struck parts of Thrissur and Palakkad districts on Saturday, according to official sources.

The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported that a magnitude 3.0 earthquake was recorded in the area at 8:15 am today.

In Thrissur, tremors were felt in areas including Kunnamkulam, Chavakkad, Guruvayur, Kechiri, Kotul, Kadavallur, Akikavu, Kadangudi and Erumapetty. Residents reported short but intense vibrations accompanied by loud noises, prompting some to leave their homes in panic. No damage has been reported so far.

In Palakkad, similar tremors were felt in Vellore, Mundur and Thirumthakudy districts, also accompanied by loud noise. The earthquake lasted for about three seconds without any negative incidents.

NCS, the nodal agency of the Government of India for monitoring earthquake activity in the country, posted on X that the epicenter of the quake was at latitude 10.55 north and longitude 76.05 east, at a depth of seven kilometres.

Officials from the state Geology Department and others went to the areas to study the incident further.
