Earthquake: Earthquake felt in Thrissur and Palakkad border districts again | Kochi News

KOCHI: An earthquake measuring 2.9 on the Richter scale was reported in Kunnamkulam district for the second consecutive day on Sunday. The earthquake, which occurred at 3:55 am, was felt in parts of the border areas between Thrissur and Palakkad. The previous day's earthquake, measuring 3.0, was recorded at 8:15 am in Injekunu, Kunnamkulam, with people in the border areas of both the districts experiencing tremors. No injuries or serious damage were reported on either day. It appeared on the wall of an old house after Sunday's earthquake. The epicenter of the earthquake was located at Ward 24, Chiramkulam, in Kunnamkulam Municipality. According to the National Seismological Center, the earthquake was felt 14 kilometers away. Kunnamkulam Mayor Seetha Raveendran said that many residents reported feeling the earthquake in the early hours of Sunday morning. She said that the damaged house was old, and that no new homes suffered any damage as a result of the earthquake. She recalled a similar earthquake in the area about 20 years ago and an open well sinking incident a few years ago. In a meeting held by Revenue Minister K Rajan, officials stressed that there is no need to panic. They informed the minister that Saturday's tremor lasted about four seconds. The Minister directed the revenue and LSGD officials to conduct an awareness program for the public on precautionary measures to be taken in case of future earthquakes. tnn
