Four dead in an earthquake in northeastern Iran

A 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck the area between Khalilabad and Kashmar in Iran's Khorasan Razavi Province at approximately 1:24 p.m. local time, killing four people and injuring at least 120 others.

Hossein Zafri, spokesman for the Disaster Management Organization in Iran, confirmed the deaths and attributed them to the collapse of the facades of stone buildings.

Dhafari added that rescue teams immediately deployed to the site and conducted the necessary rescue operations.

The earthquake's shallow depth of six kilometers exacerbated the damage.

Authorities are currently engaged in clearing the debris, and an emergency meeting is being held to coordinate further response efforts.

Initial reports indicate that the majority of injuries were caused by falling debris.

Emergency services continue to work in affected areas, providing aid and assessing structural damage.
