Earthquake: A 3.6 magnitude earthquake shakes Khandwa |

INDORE: An earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale struck Khandwa and its surrounding areas on Friday morning. The tremors reportedly lasted for about 30 seconds causing residents to rush out of their homes in fear. No loss of life or property was reported from the area. Residents of the Khandwa region felt tremors measuring 3.6 degrees. Meteorologist Prakash Dhawale said that the earthquake was recorded at 21.77 north and 76.53 east and at a depth of 10 kilometres. It happened at around 9:04 am. The epicenter of the earthquake was estimated to be 10 km from Khandwa, near Jhalkoa-Rampura Kalan village on Khandwa-Amravati road. Many local residents said they felt sudden vibrations in the morning as the windows and doors of houses began to shake. When they realized it was an earthquake, they immediately got out and ran to safer places. “The local meteorological department confirmed that the strength of the tremors reached 3.6 magnitude. “It appears to have been only a seismic event, and fortunately, there were no reports of any damage,” said ADM Kashiram Badole. Experts said the quakes with a magnitude of up to 5 on the Richter scale They fall under the minor category while those with a magnitude of 6 to 7 can cause major damage to buildings. After the construction of the Indira Sagar Dam, six seismic stations were set up in Khandwa district.
