A 4.1 magnitude earthquake hits Kern County, California, and tremors were felt in Bakersfield, Lamont, and Santa Barbara.

An earthquake struck California on Monday, causing tremors that were felt in Kern County. According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at 6:31 pm EST at a depth of 11 kilometers. The epicenter of the earthquake was 24 kilometers southwest of Lamont, California. Tremors were felt by Bakersfield residents, and residents of Ventura, Maricopa and Santa Barbara also reported shaking.

Volcano Discovery, a website that tracks earthquakes, has received several reports of tremors.

“I was sitting in a chair when suddenly I felt the ground start bouncing up and down, the first tremors were the heaviest, then they lasted about 10 seconds of nothing and then they continued to be small, going up and down for 10 seconds going on to 15 seconds,” said one Lebak residents.

“While sitting at my desk, he literally took the chair and rocked it back and forth for about 30 seconds,” wrote one Bakersfield resident. “I grew up in California, born and raised, and I love them. So far, there are no immediate reports of major damage or injuries.

A 4.1-magnitude earthquake shook the state of California, just hours after a 2.9-magnitude earthquake shook the Los Angeles area. According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the 4.1 magnitude earthquake occurred shortly after 8 a.m. EST on Monday.
