A 7.0 magnitude earthquake in Peru left 14 injured

The Regional Emergency Operations Center (COER) in Peru's Arequipa province confirmed on Friday that the number of people injured in the 7.0-magnitude earthquake that struck that area has risen to 14.

In this regard, details indicated that five of the wounded belonged to the Yauka region, one from Atiquipa and eight from Akari.

In statements provided to local media, Arequipa Governor Rohil Sanchez confirmed that “all the people were discharged from the hospital, and they sustained very minor injuries due to the same movement.”

Fourteen homes were also reported damaged, six in Yauca, three in Cahuacho, three in Acari and two in Bella Unión. “None of the homes required demolition work. It’s minor damage as far as they’re concerned,” Sanchez said.

Regarding road infrastructure, two bridges were affected, one in Chala and the other in Huanohuano; While six educational institutions were damaged due to cracks, two in Yauca, and the same number in Jaqui and Bella Onion.

In Jacue, the drinking water network was affected by 20 percent; in turn, Atequipa and Lomas damaged electrical services and 0.4 km of roads were damaged in Caravelle, Chapara, Huanhuano, Jacue and Acaré.
