The US Geological Survey reported 14 earthquakes off the coast of Vancouver Island.

VANCOUVER ISLAND, Calif. (MyBellinghamNow.com) — A series of earthquakes struck the waters off the coast of Vancouver Island in early July.

The US Geological Survey recorded 14 earthquakes between 1 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. Friday.

The quakes registered magnitudes greater than 4 on the Richter scale, with the largest measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale on Thursday morning. Several people reported to the U.S. Geological Survey that they felt shaking from the largest quake, which was the closest to shore of 14.

Each earthquake occurred within a radius of about 30 miles, about 138 miles west of Vancouver Island.

The group focused on the northern Juan de Fuca Range and the Suvanco and Nootka Fracture Zone.

Disturbances have been recorded at depths of more than six miles below the ocean floor, with one occurring more than 24 miles below the ocean floor.
