Daniels Steers scores first goal of season, Dynamo beat Earthquakes 1-0

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AFP) – Daniel Styres scored his first goal of the season in the 86th minute to help the Houston Dynamo beat the San Jose Earthquakes 1-0 on Wednesday night.

Steres, who came on as a substitute for Griffin Dorsey in the 73rd minute, scored the only goal of the match with a header after a perfect pass from Amin Bassi in the final minutes.

The Dynamo had 58% possession and outscored San Jose 22-8 in shots and 7-0 in shots on goal.

San Jose (4-18-2) has lost eight of its last nine games (a 1-0 win over the Chicago Fire on July 7) and is 25-8 during that span.

Houston (9-7-7) has lost just once in its last nine games.

Jacob Daniel Jackson started in goal for the Earthquakes, making his first appearance since allowing six goals against Los Angeles FC on June 24, and made six saves.
