Yuzuru Hanyu to sing at charity concert for earthquake victims

Two-time Japanese figure skating champion Yuzuru Hanyu will perform in a charity show in September in central Japan's Ishikawa Prefecture to support the reconstruction of earthquake-hit areas, organizers said Monday.

The show will be held on September 15. It will be broadcast online as skaters interact with people online in areas affected by the January 1 Noto Peninsula earthquake. Proceeds will be donated to the prefecture.

“I hope I can give people some energy that will give them more strength,” Hanyu said in a comment released by organizers. “I feel that skating there has a lot of meaning. I want to skate with all kinds of feelings in mind.”

As a child, Hanyu witnessed the March 11, 2011 earthquake that struck northeastern Japan.
