'It felt like an earthquake': Regina's family shocked after driver crashes into their home

A car crashed into two homes on a residential street south of Regina on Tuesday.

The Regina Fire Department said it responded to reports of a crash at 3:51 a.m., where the vehicle struck two properties — one that was boarded up as of later Tuesday morning and the other that had a destroyed garage.

The car also collided with two cars parked in the garage, and one of the parked cars is expected to be completely damaged.

Firefighters said they were able to pull one person from the wrecked vehicle with minor injuries, and no other injuries were reported.

Howard Garcia, a high school student, is the oldest of four children who were home when the white sedan crashed into their garage.

“I was sleeping soundly and then suddenly it felt like an earthquake. I heard a big explosion shaking the whole house,” he said.

Garcia said he and his family have lived in the home for seven years and nothing like this has ever happened before. He said there were seven people in the home at the time of the incident — his mother, father, uncle and three younger siblings.

Garcia said he was “shocked” when he saw the scene when he first came out of the house after hearing the crash.

“If it hit in front of the house, our rooms are right next to each other, so who knows? I'm thankful it hit where we weren't, so I'm thankful we're safe,” Garcia said.

Garcia said he hasn't slept since the accident, adding that they estimate the cost of repairs at more than $150,000.

Regina police said the investigation into the incident is ongoing, but did not provide information about the driver or any possible charges.
