Thousands of counter-protesters took to the streets of England last night after a week of violent unrest across the country. Anti-racism protesters have gathered in Liverpool, London, Bristol and Newcastle to show support for refugees and immigrants. Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mark Rowley, who sent thousands of officers to parts of the north of England yesterday, says he is “pleased” with how it has gone. He said: “It was very quiet last night. We had a couple of local criminals turn up and try to create a bit of anti-social behavior and we arrested a few of them.” Deputy First Minister Angela Rayner said earlier today there was “no excuse for rudeness”, police added. and the courts are “ready” to deal with those involved in riots.
