Japan Meteorological Agency maintains warnings of major earthquake
The Japan Meteorological Agency continues to urge people to be cautious in the face of a possible major earthquake in the Nankai Trough along the Pacific coast.
The agency maintained its own warning issued on Thursday after a 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck off Miyazaki Prefecture in southern Japan.
But agency officials say they haven't noticed any irregular changes in crustal pressure so far.
The earthquake triggered a tsunami that reached the coasts of Kyushu and Shikoku. A tsunami measuring 50 centimeters high was recorded at the port of Miyazaki City.
On land, the quake registered a maximum magnitude of 6 on the Japanese scale of 0 to 7 in the city of Nichinan.
Intensities above 5 were recorded in parts of Miyazaki City and neighboring Kagoshima Prefecture.
Another earthquake struck Miyazaki City at around 7:42 a.m. Sunday with a maximum magnitude of 3 on the Japanese scale.
Small-scale seismic activity on Japan's western Kii Peninsula has caused some changes in readings from nearby pressure gauges, agency officials say. But they add that such a phenomenon has been observed repeatedly in the past.
The agency says the possibility of a major earthquake in the Nankai Basin is higher than usual. The agency has issued a special warning urging caution under what is known as the Nankai Basin Earthquake Additional Information Protocol.
Agency officials say the warning does not mean a quake will strike the country within a specific time frame. But they have asked 707 municipalities in 29 prefectures — stretching from Tokyo in the east to Okinawa in the south — to check their disaster preparedness.
The government advises citizens to secure furniture, check evacuation sites and ensure the safety of their family members.
Authorities advised families with infants, the elderly and people with disabilities to consider evacuating voluntarily.

Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price.
