ESPN anchor stays still as earthquake hits Los Angeles studio

ESPN reporter Malika Andrews handled things with professionalism when a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck the network's Los Angeles studios on Monday.

Video of the moment went viral on social media shortly after the tremors, which occurred at 12:20 p.m., as Andrews remained on text while the tremors interrupted her video chat with WNBA alumna and basketball analyst Rebecca Lobo.

Andrews and Lobo were in the middle of talking about the U.S. women's basketball team's thrilling win at the Paris Olympics when an ESPN television set in downtown Los Angeles began to shake, causing the cameras to shake.

“There was an earthquake here in Los Angeles,” the sportscaster said calmly, raising her hand and looking up to make sure the quake hadn’t knocked any equipment off the ceiling.

So, we'll make sure our studio is lit. [and] “Everything stays safe,” Andrews continued quietly and calmly. “Everything shakes.”

As the camera continued to roll, she did a quick check on the crew, asking, “Is everyone okay?”

Andrews then calmly turned back to the audience and said to the viewers, “Well, thank you so much for bearing with us through this. Our studios were shaking a little bit.”

Andrews later responded to the unexpected moment on X, formerly known as Twitter, telling her followers it was a “scary moment.”

“Thank you to the amazing crew who remained calm throughout! Stay safe, fellow Los Angeles residents,” she added.

Although the earthquake took Los Angeles by surprise, there were no reports of major damage or injuries from the quake.

However, the California quake was felt as far south as San Diego, as well as to the east in the Palm Springs desert area, the Associated Press reported, citing U.S. Geological Survey reports.
